As you have already seen on these pages, there are several theme promenades in the Bakar area that combine business with pleasure. While enjoying the ambiance of interesting locations throughout the Bakar area, use interpretation panels and inscriptions to find out various interesting details related to the cultural and natural heritage of this region.
If you find yourself in Hreljin, do walk along the “Gradina Road,” a 1.6-km-long theme promenade to the medieval Hreljinska Gradina. The promenade also offers a gamified tour Frankopan Adventure.
In Ponikve, you will be welcomed by a very interesting circular promenade around the “Now you see me, now you don’t” lake. The 8.5-km-long route is equipped with interpretive panels that will introduce you to the rich natural heritage of this area. The remains of an ancient Illyrian fortress can be found nearby.
A short theme promenade leads from Bakarske Prezidi to nearby Črni Vrh. Here, the focus is on natural heritage, and the promenade promises an “ascent to prehistoric times” as there are also remains of an Illyrian fortress at its end. Since this promenade involves some climbing, you will be rewarded with a not-too-shabby view from the top.
One theme promenade can be found in Bakar itself. Following the riverbed of the Bakar Potok, this promenade opens a less frequently seen “Behind the Scenes” view of the Upper Town and Frankopan Castle. This short promenade passes through pleasant greenery, taking you straight to the top of the Bakar old town, to the immediate vicinity of the Castle.
