Tuhobić from Zlobin
This 7-km-long trail overcomes 400 meters of altitude difference, which makes it a moderately demanding climb to the peak ridge of one of the favorite coastal mountains. The trail passes through various landscapes unique to the Primorje-Gorski Kotar border area. Here you’ll find old dry stones, karst, and beech forests, while the entire ridge offers unforgettable views of Kvarner, the islands, Risnjak, Učka, and Ćićarija. Trebestin Panoramic Path
This relatively short route (1.6-km-long) will take you from Krasica to Trebestin Hill, passing by as many as four bunkers of the Rupnik Line. Upon reaching the top, you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful view of Kvarner and Učka. The place is also popular for its beautiful sunsets. If you do not have too much time, and you are eager to quickly recharge, this panoramic route is the choice for you! Learn more about it here.
“Herman’s Path”
Named after the distinguished mountaineer Herman Žudić from Rijeka, this trail offers an interesting experience of climbing from the coast in Bakar to the mountain ridges in the hinterland. You can also conquer it in its shorter version, which leads from Krasica to the Škrebutnjak area. The peculiarity of this route is that it does not climb to any of the peaks but passes between them. However, interested walkers can easily climb from Herman’s Path to Veliko Lukovište, Svib, Matušajna, Trebestin, or the 1,141-m-high Vela Pliš, which offers a beautiful view of the entire Kvarner Bay.
Gornje jelenje – Vilje – Risnjak
The list of Bakar’s hiking trails wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the climb to Veliki Risnjak, the 1,528-m-high peak of the National Park of the same name and the highest peak in the Bakar area. The locals start their ascent to Risnjak from Gornje Jelenje, where a relatively easy 7-km-long stretch leads to the Vilje site. If you want to shorten the climb, you can park your car at Vilje. Risnjak Mountain is the heart of Gorski Kotar, home to many species of flora and fauna, among which the most famous are large carnivores – the brown bear, wolf, and lynx. The view from its peak – the second highest in Gorski Kotar – is exceptional, stretching from Kvarner to the Julian Alps. Take a closer look at the trail here.
